“Salt” Review

I am torn on this latest action thriller.  It is both ridiculous beyond all belief and utterly watchable.  That combination perplexes me because one usually prevents the other.  I will typically shred a film that exists in the supposed “real world” if it bombards me with impossible to believe feats and stunts.  I hate having my suspension of disbelief lifted by ludicrous sequences of events.  If I am aware that I am watching a movie, it is usually not a good sign.

That being said… “Salt” somehow manages to successfully navigate its way to a positive rating despite some of the insanity splashed across the screen over the course of its 100 minutes.  Angelina Jolie , an actress I am mostly indifferent to, is engaging here — carrying the overwhelming majority of the movie with boundless energy and intensity.  This is a silly movie that brings back my favorite bad guys of all time — the “Cold War” Russians — and blends “The Bourne Identity” with Angelina’s lips.  Granted, it is riddled with gaping plot holes, but they are rather easy to forget because of the blistering pace and riveting entertainment.
