“Hot Tub Time Machine” Review

December 13, 2010  |  Movies, Reviews

The recent comedy that “Hot Tub Time Machine” will be compared to is “The Hangover”.  Both are essentially guy-trip comedies with plenty of lewd behavior, rampant drunkenness, gratuitous nudity & utter implausibility… And they both deliver laughs.

Four depressed dudes go on a weekend getaway after one of them gets hammered and tries to kill himself.  The trip is intended to cheer each of them up by revisiting one of the most memorable times of their lives.  During their first night at the ski lodge, they all end up blitzed and in the hot tub.  As you can predict by the title, when they get out, they have traveled back in time… to 1986.  Their mission is to recreate the historic weekend without messing up the “space-time continuum” and changing history forever.

I have to state that “The Hangover” is the better of the two movies.  I can see repeat viewings of that one being far more enjoyable.  There is something about “HTTM” that feels incomplete.  I think it drags quite a lot in the middle third.  Nevertheless, I laughed enough to recommend it.
