Sadly, it
comes down to this...
Because of the obscene and relentless
witch-hunt on the Clinton administration,
the blatant theft of two elections, and the
criminal governmental actions since 9/11,
American politics has devolved into the
battle of the extremes. There are no gray
areas anymore, only black or white. There is
no more room for reasonable discussion or
persuasion.
I have personally developed so much disdain
for the conservative leadership of this era
that I could not imagine even giving them
the benefit of the doubt on almost any
issue. I have lost all trust. I have lost
all rationality. I struggle to even listen
to one of them without getting angry.
I have come to a point in my life where I
feel like politics is now like rooting for a
sports team. I have always cheered for the
Dolphins. I have come to hate the Patriots.
The Patriots cheated and had success. The
Patriots fans deny it even in the face of
overwhelmingly obvious evidence. Sound
familiar?
Last year, my beloved Dolphins won only one
game. The Patriots only lost one game. And
yet, because of the context in which that
one win and one loss occurred, it was still
one of the most satisfactory years in my
football memory.
I was so happy when my Dolphins scraped out
a victory, late in the season, to avoid
being only the second winless team in
history. I was even more ecstatic when the
lying, cheating Patriots had their dreams
crushed by Eli Manning, David Tyree and the
rest of the Giants. I was happier than if
the Dolphins had won the Superbowl
themselves. History was preserved.
Perfection sustained. Justice
achieved.
All I want now is the same feeling in
politics. I want to inflict pain on the
Republican leadership. I want it to hurt
real bad. I want them and their rich friends
to suffer. I want them to be punished for
their multiple "spygates".
I don't care any more. I have stopped with
rational discussions on all the "topics du
jour". They won't listen to that anyway.
It has all just dwindled into a childish
shouting match.
Some say that we
Democrats should rise above the fray -- that
we shouldn't stoop to their level.
Well, I have grown tired of that tactic...
it doesn't work. To quote Barry
Greenstein, that is "like playing Beethoven
to a cow."
Unfortunately, all politics comes down to
now is winning and losing... I hope Obama is
Manning and Biden is Tyree... I hope they
win with a Hail-Mary.
I want the George W Bush legacy to be
forever tainted and the throng of his
supporters to have to swallow their passion
with a heavy dose of humility.
I want America to be a place I can be proud
of calling home again.
