There are countless cinematic adaptations of this legendary tale. This version is my favorite. It is one of the finest films of 2002. It stars Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, Richard Harris, Dagmara Dominczyk and Luis Guzmán. It is a grand love story, a rousing adventure and one of the most epic dramas one can imagine. Loyalty, Betrayal, Cruelty, Vengeance, Patience, Determination… It has everything you could possibly ask for in a film like this.

Can you imagine a movie starring Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Day Lewis, Mel Gibson, Liam Neeson, Laurence Olivier and Bernard Hill? If such a film existed, wouldn’t it have to rank as one of the finest ensembles ever to appear on screen? Well, it does exist — and it is a fucking brilliant film that seems to get overlooked when critics rave about the best movies of the 1980′s. It was released in 1984 and it was directed by Roger Donaldson. Have you figured it out yet?
